What is Gum contouring (laser)?
Definition
Laser gum contouring is a procedure that uses a dental soft-tissue laser to remove or reshape excess gum, so that more of each tooth shows and the gum line looks even.
It is chosen when gum covers part of the teeth or the gum line is uneven between teeth, and it is often planned before veneers. If the bone sits too close to the edge, crown lengthening may be added; a very mobile upper lip or a long upper jaw is not a gum problem, and trimming gum will not fix it. At Creative Arts in Dubai, it is done under local anaesthetic; the surface usually settles in 1–2 weeks and the margin matures over about 6–8 weeks.
Ask the dentist to measure what is causing your gummy smile and to show the planned gum line on a photo or mock-up. Ask whether bone reshaping is needed, how soon veneers can follow, and what to eat while it heals. The cost is set in your written plan.
Questions about Gum contouring (laser)
How long after laser gum contouring can veneers be prepared?
The gum surface usually settles within one to two weeks, but the gum margin keeps maturing for about six to eight weeks. Because veneer edges are designed to the final gum line, dentists often wait for the margin to stabilise before final preparation and scanning. Your dentist will set the timing in your plan according to how your gum heals.
