What is Axiography?
Definition
Axiography is a functional test that records how the jaw joint moves as you open and close the mouth, push the jaw forward and move it to each side.
The recording shows the movement paths of the jaw, which the dentist and lab use to set up the bite on an articulator so new teeth fit how your jaw actually moves. It is used in functional diagnostics of the TMJ, the chewing muscles and the bite, and before larger restorative work such as veneers, crowns or full-mouth rehabilitation. Axiography is available at Creative Arts in Dubai as part of bite-first planning.
Ask why axiography is recommended in your case and how its results will change the design of your teeth or your bite. Ask whether it will be combined with condylography, CBCT or a clinical examination of the jaw muscles. Its cost is listed in your written plan.
Questions about Axiography
Is axiography painful or invasive?
No. Axiography is a non-invasive recording. It usually uses a lightweight bow resting on the head and a small attachment held temporarily on the lower teeth, while you open, close and move the jaw as asked and the movements are recorded. There is no injection, cut or radiation, and the attachments are removed straight after the recording.
