Quick answer

What are E-max veneers?

E-max veneers are thin shells of lithium disilicate glass-ceramic bonded to the front of the teeth. The material combines natural-looking translucency with several times the strength of traditional feldspathic porcelain, which is why it is the default choice for most veneer cases. At Creative Arts they are designed digitally, then milled and hand-finished in our own laboratory in Jumeirah.

Why E-max

Why most veneer cases end up in lithium disilicate

The material is chosen for the tooth, not the price list. These are the reasons it is chosen most often.

01

Translucent where teeth are translucent

Lithium disilicate lets light pass through the biting edge the way enamel does, so the veneer does not read as a flat, opaque white.

02

Strong enough to be thin

Its strength means a veneer can be made thin, which usually means less enamel has to be removed to make room for it.

03

Bonds well to enamel

It is etched and bonded with adhesive cement. A veneer bonded to enamel is far more stable than one bonded mostly to dentine.

04

Stain-resistant surface

Glazed ceramic does not absorb coffee, tea or tobacco stains the way composite resin does over time.

Candidacy

Who E-max veneers suit, and who should consider something else

Usually a good fit

  • Front teeth that are structurally sound but discoloured beyond what whitening can change
  • Chipped, worn or uneven biting edges
  • Small gaps, or teeth that look too small or short
  • Mild misalignment where orthodontics is not wanted and enamel allows
  • Replacing old composite or older-generation veneers

Consider an alternative first

  • Active gum disease or decay — these are treated first
  • Heavy grinding without a night guard plan — chips are likely
  • A tooth with a large filling or root canal — a crown usually protects it better
  • Significant crowding — aligners first often means fewer veneers and less preparation
  • Colour only — whitening is the reversible answer

What makes them look natural

Shade, texture and edge: where veneers succeed or fail

Natural teeth are not one colour. They are warmer and more saturated near the gum, lighter through the body, and slightly translucent at the edge. A veneer made in a single flat shade skips all of that — which is why some veneer work is visible from across a room.

  • Layered shade: the technician builds a gradient rather than a single colour.
  • Surface texture: fine vertical and horizontal texture scatters light like enamel does.
  • Edge translucency: a slightly translucent incisal third stops the smile looking painted.

Because the laboratory is in the same building, shade is judged on your teeth in person rather than from a photograph.

The process

How E-max veneers are made, visit by visit

Timings vary with the number of teeth and whether any preparatory treatment is needed; these are the stages every case follows.

  1. Examination & records

Bite, gum health, existing fillings, photographs and a digital scan. Anything that would undermine veneers is identified here.

    Visit 1
  2. Digital smile design

Tooth proportions, midline and edge position are designed against your face and lip line, then reviewed with you.

    Design stage
  3. Mock-up in your mouth

The design is transferred into a temporary trial you can see, speak with and photograph before anything irreversible happens.

    Before preparation
  4. Conservative preparation

Enamel is reduced only where the approved design needs space. Temporaries are fitted the same visit.

    Preparation visit
  5. Milled & hand-finished

The veneers are milled from lithium disilicate, then characterised and glazed by the technician.

  6. Try-in, bonding & bite check

Shade and fit are checked before bonding; the bite is balanced so the edges do not take forces they were not designed for.

How your restoration is designed and made

The laboratory that makes your ceramic work is in the same building as the clinic. The technician can see your teeth under the same light as your dentist, rather than working from photographs sent to an outside supplier — which is where shade, surface texture and edge translucency are decided.

  1. 1Consultation & records — examination, photographs and the radiographs your case needs
  2. 2Digital scan — an intraoral scan replaces impression trays for most cases
  3. 3Design — the restoration or smile is designed digitally and reviewed with you
  4. 4Lab fabrication — milled from ceramic, then hand-finished for shade and texture
  5. 5Try-in — shade, shape and fit checked in your mouth, adjusted in-house if needed
  6. 6Placement & review — bonded or cemented, bite balanced, reviewed afterwards

Who designs and makes your veneers?

Veneers for Creative Arts patients are designed and made at Creative Art Dental Lab, in the same building as the clinic. The laboratory is part of Creative Art Group, whose CEO, Basem Tobaji, is a dental technician and smile design expert with about 30 years in the dental field. Your dentist plans and fits the veneers; the laboratory makes them.

Material comparison

E-max vs zirconia vs composite veneers

Each material has a job it does best. This is the honest summary; the right choice depends on the tooth.

E-max (lithium disilicate)Layered zirconiaComposite
AppearanceHighly natural, translucent edgeVery good; slightly more opaque coreGood initially; surface dulls with time
StrengthHigh for a glass-ceramicHighest core strengthLowest; chips can be repaired
Typical useMost front-tooth veneers and front crownsHeavy-load teeth, dark or heavily restored teethSmall corrections, trials, lower budgets
PreparationMinimal to conservativeUsually more than E-maxOften none
Stain resistanceExcellentExcellentPicks up stain over years
Typical service lifeOften 10–15 years or more with careComparable to E-maxAround 3–5 years before refreshing

Service life ranges are typical figures from clinical experience and published reviews; bite, grinding and hygiene affect them more than the material. See E-max vs zirconia explained.

Cost

What sets the cost of E-max veneers

We do not publish a per-tooth figure, because the number that matters is the one for your case. These are the variables that move it — see the full veneers cost guide.

  • Number of teethDecided by how many teeth show when you talk and smile — usually fewer than a package assumes.
  • Tooth-by-tooth needsA tooth that needs a crown or a build-up changes that tooth's cost.
  • Preparatory treatmentGum treatment, replacing old fillings, whitening the teeth you keep natural, or alignment.
  • Design and mock-upDigital design and a trial smile are part of the plan, not optional extras.
  • Protecting the resultA night guard if you grind — cheaper than replacing a chipped veneer.
Patient questions

Frequently asked questions

Is E-max the same as porcelain veneers?

E-max is a type of dental ceramic, so E-max veneers are a kind of porcelain veneer. "Porcelain" is often used loosely for all ceramics; strictly, traditional porcelain is feldspathic, while E-max is lithium disilicate, which is considerably stronger.

How long do E-max veneers last?

With good hygiene, regular check-ups and a night guard if you grind, 10 to 15 years is a realistic expectation and many last longer. Failures are usually caused by chipping from grinding, gum recession exposing the margin, or decay at the edge — not the ceramic wearing out.

Do E-max veneers damage your teeth?

Most E-max veneers need some enamel reduction, typically a fraction of a millimetre, and that is irreversible. A design-led preparation removes only what the approved design requires. In a limited number of cases a no-prep or minimal-prep approach is possible; an examination decides that.

E-max or zirconia veneers — which is better?

For most front teeth, E-max looks more natural because it is more translucent. Layered zirconia is chosen where strength matters more, such as heavy bite forces or a very dark tooth that needs masking. Many cases use both, tooth by tooth.

How many visits do E-max veneers take?

Typically a consultation and records visit, a design and mock-up stage, a preparation visit with temporaries, and a fitting visit, plus a review. Preparatory treatment such as gum therapy or whitening adds time.

Can E-max veneers be whitened later?

No. Ceramic does not respond to whitening gel. If you want your natural teeth lighter, whitening is done before the veneer shade is chosen so everything matches.
