Quick answer

Can a dentist in Dubai give me a second opinion on my treatment plan without seeing me?

Partly. Creative Arts offers a free photo assessment on WhatsApp: a dentist looks at your written plan, X-rays and photos and tells you whether the proposed treatment fits what the images show, which more conservative options may be worth asking about, and what must be checked in person. Decay under fillings, cracks, gum pockets, nerve health and the bite cannot be diagnosed remotely.

What can a remote second opinion tell you, and what can it not?

Images show a lot, but not everything. A good remote opinion says clearly which of its points are firm and which are questions.

A remote opinion can usually tell you

  • Whether the plan matches what your X-rays and photos show
  • Whether more conservative options are worth asking about, such as whitening, bonding or aligners instead of veneers
  • Which teeth seem to need treatment and which may be included for symmetry
  • Questions to put to your own dentist before you agree
  • How many visits or trips a case like yours usually needs in Dubai, and the starting prices

It cannot reliably tell you

  • Decay under fillings or between teeth, without recent, clear X-rays
  • Cracks, which often show only under magnification or with tests
  • Gum pocket depths and how loose a tooth is
  • Whether a tooth's nerve is alive, which needs vitality tests
  • How your bite and jaw work, or the exact shade
  • A final diagnosis or a final price

What to send

What should you send for a second opinion from abroad?

The more of these you include, the more specific the reply can be.

SendWhat makes it useful
The written treatment planTooth by tooth, with the treatment and material for each; a quote alone says little
The findings or diagnosisNotes such as 'decay under the filling on 26' or 'bone loss around 46' explain why each item is proposed
Recent X-raysOriginal digital files with their dates; a CBCT scan if implants or surgery are planned
PhotosDaylight smile photos without filters, front and sides
Your questionsWhat worries you about the plan, and what you would like to keep or avoid

For file formats and large files, see what to bring and send before you come.

Tooth numbers

How do you read the tooth numbers on a UK or US treatment plan?

Plans from different countries number teeth differently, and a misread number can make a plan look wrong when it is not. Check which system yours uses:

  • FDI (two digits), used in the UAE and most countries: the first digit is the quarter of the mouth, the second the tooth from the centre. 11 and 21 are the upper front teeth; 36 is the lower left first molar.
  • Universal (1 to 32), used in the US: 1 is the upper right wisdom tooth, 8 and 9 are the upper front teeth, and the count runs round to 32, the lower right wisdom tooth.
  • Palmer, still seen on some UK plans: a number from 1 to 8 inside a corner symbol showing the quarter of the mouth.

When you send a plan, say which system it uses if it is not written on it. The reply will use FDI numbers and name each tooth in words. Our guide to reading a dental treatment plan explains the other parts of a plan.

How it works

How does a remote second opinion work at Creative Arts?

No appointment is needed to start, and there is no obligation to have treatment in Dubai.

  1. Send your plan and images

On WhatsApp, with photos and X-rays; large scans by email to [email protected].

    Step 1
  2. A dentist reviews them

Veneer and smile plans go to the cosmetic dentists; implant and surgical plans to the surgical team.

    Step 2
  3. You get a plain reply

What the images show, which options are worth discussing, what needs an examination and questions for your dentist.

    Step 3
  4. You decide

Continue at home, or come to Dubai for an examination and a written, itemised plan with alternatives that you keep.

    Step 4
When it is worth it

Which treatment plans are most worth a second opinion from abroad?

Large, irreversible plans, and plans where two careful dentists could reasonably disagree.

01

Many veneers or crowns

Especially on teeth that feel healthy. Ask whether whitening, bonding or minimal-preparation veneers could do part of the job.

02

Extract and implant

Whether a tooth can be kept with a root canal or gum treatment is a judgement call; see root canal or implant.

03

Full-arch plans

Removing all teeth for All-on-4 or a full-arch bridge is a major step. A CBCT scan makes the remote opinion far more useful.

04

Replacing old veneers

Old veneers are replaced for different reasons: decay, gum recession, chips or appearance. The reason changes the plan.

Check who is giving the opinion

Every dentist licensed in Dubai can be looked up on the DHA Sheryan directory. Our guide explains how to check a dentist's DHA licence, and the doctors page lists who works at the clinic.

In person

What if you want the second opinion in person in Dubai?

A remote opinion can only go so far. If you travel, the first consultation is free and includes an examination; any X-rays or scans needed are explained before they are taken. You leave with a written, itemised plan with alternatives, whether or not you go ahead. The guide to second opinions in Dubai explains how to compare two plans fairly.

The reply comments on the treatment, not on other dentists' fees. Where they exist, our starting prices are published: veneers from AED 1,250 per tooth and implants from AED 4,000 per implant. To plan a trip, see how many days in Dubai and the dental tourism page.

Who treats you

Who gives second opinions to patients abroad?

Veneer, smile and full-mouth plans are reviewed by Dr. Kinan Bonni, Dr. Khalid Saeed and Dr. Duaa Emran, Cosmetic Dentist. Implant, extraction and grafting plans are reviewed by Dr. Firas Osman, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon & Implantologist, with Dr. Kinan Bonni and Dr. Khalid Saeed.

Patient questions

Frequently asked questions

Can I send a dental treatment plan from the UK to a Dubai dentist for a second opinion?

Yes. Send the written plan, recent X-rays as digital files and a few daylight photos on WhatsApp. A dentist at Creative Arts replies with what the images show, the options worth discussing and what would need an examination. It does not replace your own dentist's examination, but it helps you ask better questions.

Is a second opinion on WhatsApp free for patients living in the UK or US?

Yes, the photo assessment on WhatsApp is free. If you then travel to Dubai, the first consultation is also free and includes an examination. Any X-rays or scans needed are explained before they are taken, and treatment is priced in a written, itemised plan.

Can a dentist in Dubai tell from my US X-rays whether I really need a root canal?

Not with certainty. X-rays can show deep decay or a dark area at the root tip, but whether the nerve is alive needs tests on the tooth itself, such as cold and tapping tests. A remote opinion can say whether the X-ray supports the plan and what to ask your dentist.

How do I read the tooth numbers on a US dental plan when asking for a second opinion abroad?

US plans usually use the Universal system: teeth 1 to 32, starting with the upper right wisdom tooth, so 8 and 9 are the upper front teeth. Most other countries, including the UAE, use two-digit FDI numbers, where 11 and 21 are the upper front teeth. Say which system your plan uses.

Will a Dubai dentist comment on the price of a plan I was given abroad?

No. The second opinion is about the treatment: whether it fits what the images show and what the alternatives are. Creative Arts does not comment on other dentists' fees. Its own starting prices are published, such as veneers from AED 1,250 per tooth, and anything else is priced in a written plan.

Do I have to have treatment in Dubai after a second opinion from abroad?

No. Many people use the reply to talk the plan through with their own dentist and continue at home. If you decide to come to Dubai, the remote opinion is confirmed or changed at your examination, and you receive a written plan with alternatives before anything is agreed.
