The stay is longer
A sinus lift often means one to two weeks or more before you are cleared to fly. If your stay cannot be that long, the surgeon may suggest a different order of treatment.

After veneers, crowns or a finished root canal there is usually no medical reason to wait, but keep a day for the review. After an extraction, an implant or a bone graft the typical advice is to wait a few days and follow your surgeon's instructions. A sinus lift has its own, longer advice. At Creative Arts the flight date is agreed when the treatment is planned.

Written for patients who flew to Dubai for treatment. The clinical reasons, such as cabin pressure and the sinus, are explained in our guide to flying after dental surgery.
| Treatment in Dubai | Book the flight home | Done before you board | Then, at home |
|---|---|---|---|
| Veneers or Hollywood smile | At least a day after the fitting | Bite checked after you have eaten with the veneers; review of gums and edges | Normal cleaning; a night guard if you grind |
| Crowns or bridge | At least a day after the fitting | Bite and contact points checked | Check-ups with your own dentist |
| Implant, first stage | Typically a few days after surgery | Surgeon's check of the site; plan for stitches agreed | Soft food, healing check, months of healing before the crown |
| Implant crown, second stage | After the crown is fitted and the bite checked | Crown fit and bite confirmed | Clean around it daily; regular hygiene visits |
| Tooth extraction | Typically a few days later | Bleeding stopped; socket checked if surgical | Soft food, no smoking, follow the aftercare sheet |
| Bone graft | Often a few days or more, depending on site | Gum closing over the graft; surgeon's clearance | Protect the area; implant or next step on a later trip |
| Sinus lift | Only once checked and cleared, often one to two weeks or more | Surgeon's check; no nose or sinus symptoms | No nose blowing until advised; next stage months later |
| Root canal treatment | Once the canals are sealed and the tooth has a lasting filling | Final filling placed; crown planned if needed | Crown with us or your own dentist, as agreed |
If you had oral or IV sedation, do not fly the same day. Typical ranges, not promises.

The first-stage flight is the one that needs planning. Surgery is booked early in your stay so that Dr. Firas Osman or your treating dentist can see you again before you leave. Before that last visit, make sure you have:
The second-stage flight, after the crown, has no particular restriction once the bite has been checked. See implant aftercare for the weeks after surgery and dental implants at the clinic for the whole treatment.
With grafting, the return flight shapes the surgical plan, not the other way round.
A sinus lift often means one to two weeks or more before you are cleared to fly. If your stay cannot be that long, the surgeon may suggest a different order of treatment.
Tell your surgeon if you develop a cold or blocked nose before the flight. Use nasal sprays or decongestants only if they were prescribed for you.
Granules or fluid from the nose, or air passing between mouth and nose, must be checked before you board.
The implant or crown comes on a later trip, after the graft has matured. The bone grafting and sinus lift guide explains why.

Cabin pressure does not affect well-fitted veneers or crowns. The reason to wait is the bite. Your teeth feel different for the first meals after a Hollywood smile or new crowns, and a contact that is slightly high is easy to adjust in the chair but uncomfortable for weeks if you have already left.
The review also checks the gums and that no bonding material is left at the edges. With 20 veneers, ask whether the review should be two days after the fitting rather than one.
Leaving between preparation and fitting, with temporary veneers, is not recommended: temporaries are not made to last for weeks and can loosen.
A tooth left between root canal visits with a temporary filling is more likely to ache in the air. Ask for the canals to be sealed and a lasting filling placed before you fly, or plan the last visit with your own dentist and bring the records. See tooth pain when flying and root canal treatment.
Practical points for a long journey in the days after surgery.
Take antibiotics and pain relief by the hours since your last dose, as the instructions say, not by the clock at your destination.
Drink regularly and keep to soft, lukewarm food. Avoid hot drinks and crunchy snacks on the treated side.
Resting with your head raised helps with swelling in the first days after surgery.
If you take blood thinners or have had blood clots, ask your doctor for travel advice after surgery.
Before you leave you receive written aftercare and a summary of what was done, for your own dentist. If something feels wrong at home, send the clinic a photo and a short description on WhatsApp during opening hours, 10:00–20:00 Dubai time. Many questions are answered that way, and your home dentist can examine you if needed.
Do not wait for a message reply if you have facial swelling with fever, difficulty breathing or swallowing, swelling spreading towards the eye or neck, or bleeding that will not stop with firm pressure: go to a hospital emergency department where you are. The post-operative care guide covers what is normal in the first week, and dental treatment on holiday covers the days before your flight.
Implant surgery, bone grafts, sinus lifts and surgical extractions are planned by Dr. Firas Osman, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon & Implantologist, Dr. Kinan Bonni and Dr. Khalid Saeed. The dentist who treats you gives your flight advice in writing.
There is usually no medical reason to wait after veneers, because cabin pressure does not affect them. Keep at least one day after the fitting for a review, when the bite is checked after you have eaten and the gums and edges are inspected. With 20 veneers a slightly longer gap is sensible.
The typical advice after a single implant is to wait a few days and follow your surgeon's instructions. Surgery is planned early in your stay so the site can be checked before you leave. A bone graft or sinus lift at the same time changes the advice, so agree the flight date when the surgery is planned.
It is better to allow a few days, particularly after a surgical or wisdom tooth extraction. Bleeding should have stopped and the socket settled, and swelling often peaks around the second or third day. Your dentist confirms the date for your case and gives you written aftercare for the journey.
Your surgeon does, after checking you. The lining of the sinus needs time to heal, so the advice is specific to each case and often means one to two weeks or more before flying. Because that affects how long you stay, the flight date is agreed at the planning stage, before surgery.
It is possible, but a tooth with a temporary filling between visits is more likely to ache with pressure changes. Where the schedule allows, ask for the root canal to be completed and a lasting filling placed before you fly, or arrange the final visit with your dentist at home and take the records.
Ask for the implant system, size and position in writing, whether your stitches dissolve, how long to take each medicine, what to eat, which signs need a message to the clinic and roughly when the second trip for the crown should be. Keep these papers in your hand luggage.
