About 0.2–0.5 mm of ceramic
Conventional veneers are often 0.5 mm or more on the front of the tooth, and thicker again where they have to hide a dark colour. Ultra-thin work sits at the low end of that range.

A veneer about as thin as a contact lens can change shape and brightness with little or no drilling, but only on the right teeth. Here is how the thickness is chosen, tooth by tooth.

Ultra-thin veneers are ceramic veneers roughly 0.2–0.5 mm thick, usually feldspathic porcelain or thin E.max, bonded to enamel with little or no drilling. They suit teeth that are small, slightly set back, spaced or worn at the edge, not teeth that are dark or crowded forward. At Creative Arts in Dubai, veneers start from AED 1,250 per tooth; the material chosen for each tooth decides your figure in the written plan.

There is no official cut-off. In practice it means ceramic thin enough that the tooth needs little or no reshaping.
Conventional veneers are often 0.5 mm or more on the front of the tooth, and thicker again where they have to hide a dark colour. Ultra-thin work sits at the low end of that range.
Feldspathic porcelain, built up by hand and fired, and lithium disilicate (E.max), milled thin. Both are made in our laboratory; colour and strength needs decide which.
A thin veneer is fragile in the hand and strong once bonded, because it borrows its stiffness from the enamel underneath. That is why healthy enamel is the first thing checked.
Very thin ceramic lets the tooth's own colour show through. It brightens light teeth well; it cannot hide grey, dark or patchy teeth on its own.
The change you ask for decides the thickness, and the thickness decides whether drilling is needed. Typical ranges:
| What you want to change | Typical ceramic thickness | Usual preparation | Is ultra-thin realistic? |
|---|---|---|---|
| A slightly brighter shade on already light teeth | About 0.2–0.4 mm | None, or a light polish of the enamel | Usually yes |
| Close small gaps or build up small, narrow teeth | About 0.3–0.5 mm, added on top | Often none | Usually yes |
| Lengthen worn or chipped biting edges | Thin on the face, thicker at the edge | Minimal, mostly at the edge | Often, if the bite allows |
| Teeth that sit slightly behind their neighbours | About 0.3–0.5 mm, brings them forward | Often none | Usually yes |
| Teeth that already sit forward or overlap | Would add bulk where there is no room | Reshaping, or alignment first | Usually no |
| Grey, dark or root-canal-treated teeth | Often 0.6 mm or more with masking layers | Conventional preparation | Rarely |
Ranges are typical clinical figures, not a promise for any one tooth. For how thickness and drilling relate, see how thick veneers are and how much is filed.
Most disappointment with ultra-thin veneers comes from using them on teeth that needed something else.

A veneer of a few tenths of a millimetre behaves more like a tinted window than a wall. The final colour is the ceramic and the tooth together, which changes how the case is planned:
Lumineers is a trademarked brand of ultra-thin porcelain veneer, made by its own laboratory. Creative Arts does not offer the Lumineers brand. What we make is the same category of treatment: custom ultra-thin ceramic veneers, designed with your dentist and made by Creative Art Dental Lab in the same building, where the ceramist can see the teeth the veneers are for.
Whatever the name, ask the same questions: how thick the ceramic will be on each tooth, whether any enamel is removed, which material is used, and whether you see a mock-up first. See veneers vs Lumineers for the brand difference, and no-prep veneers for why drill-free only looks natural on some teeth.
Usually three to four visits over a few weeks once teeth and gums are healthy; whitening or gum treatment adds time.
Enamel, existing fillings, bite, gums and colour are checked, with photographs and a digital scan.
Visit 1The planned veneers are tried on as a temporary mock-up over your teeth. If the smile looks bulky, ultra-thin is not right for those teeth, and you see that before deciding.
Before any preparationDone before the shade is chosen, because thin ceramic shows the tooth colour beneath it.
OptionalOnly where the approved design needs room, often smoothing an edge or contact point, sometimes nothing. Then the final scan.
Preparation visitFeldspathic or E.max veneers are made and finished by the ceramist, typically in 3–5 working days; the lab is closed on Sundays.
Lab stageShade is checked with try-in paste, the veneers are bonded to enamel, and the edges are checked against your bite. A review follows.
Fitting visitAn ultra-thin veneer can crack before it is bonded, so it is made and handled with extra care. Creative Art Dental Lab, in the same building, makes it from your scan and approved mock-up, and the ceramist can check the shade on your teeth rather than a photograph.

Veneers start from AED 1,250 per tooth. That figure is for veneers in general, not for one material or thickness: the material chosen for each tooth (feldspathic or E.max), the number of teeth, any tooth that needs a thicker veneer or a crown, and work such as whitening first are each written as their own line in your plan. The veneers cost guide explains how to compare quotes fairly.

Usually about 0.2 to 0.5 mm of ceramic on the front of the tooth, against 0.5 mm or more for a conventional veneer, which is thicker again where it hides a dark colour. The difference decides whether the tooth needs reshaping to make room, and how much of its own colour shows through the ceramic.
Yes, once bonded to healthy enamel. A thin veneer is fragile on its own and gains strength from its bond to the tooth, which is why enamel is checked first. The main risk is chipping at the biting edge in people who grind or bite hard objects, so grinders are usually advised to wear a night guard.
Often, yes. Ultra-thin veneers are frequently used for small corrections, such as building up two narrow side teeth or closing a gap between the front teeth. The new veneers are matched to the natural teeth beside them, so the shade of your untreated teeth matters, and whitening may be suggested first.
If you want your smile lighter overall, usually yes. Thin ceramic lets the tooth colour beneath it show through, and ceramic does not respond to whitening gel afterwards. Whitening first sets the base colour for the veneered teeth and the natural teeth next to them, and the veneer shade is chosen once the colour has settled.
Not because they are thin. At Creative Arts, veneers start from AED 1,250 per tooth, and the figure for each tooth depends on the material chosen, such as feldspathic porcelain or E.max, not on the word ultra-thin. Your plan lists each tooth, its material and any work needed first before you agree.
Creative Arts does not offer the Lumineers brand. If your teeth suit that kind of treatment, the equivalent here is a custom ultra-thin ceramic veneer made by the laboratory in our building and planned from a mock-up. If the mock-up shows drill-free veneers would look bulky, the dentist explains the alternatives, such as minimal-prep veneers or alignment first.
Often not, when there is no preparation or only light smoothing of enamel, because enamel has no nerves. If any tooth needs more shaping, or the edge of the veneer is placed near the gum, a local anaesthetic is used for comfort. Your dentist tells you before the visit which teeth will need it.
