Pain and infection first
Anything hurting, infected or about to break comes first.
Medically reviewed by Dr. Kinan Bonni, Dentist · DHA Professional Unique ID 00180966 · October 2026
A free first consultation that starts with a conversation, not a drill. What happens at each age, what to bring, when X-rays are worth it, how nervous patients are helped and what your written plan will say.
Nervous, or booking for a child? Say so on WhatsApp +971 56 677 7537 and the visit is planned around it.

Designed in the clinic and made by hand in Creative Art Dental Lab, in the same building in Jumeirah, Dubai.

At Creative Arts in Dubai, a first dental visit is a free consultation. The dentist asks about your health and worries, examines teeth, gums, bite and soft tissues, and takes X-rays only if they are needed and explained first. Children's first visits are short and gentle; adults returning after years get no lecture. Nervous patients can discuss laughing gas, oral or IV sedation after a medical review. You leave with a written, itemised plan.

Typical first visits; the dentist adapts to the person in the chair.
| Who | What usually happens | X-rays? | A tip that helps |
|---|---|---|---|
| Baby, first tooth to 12 months | A look at gums and first teeth, often with the baby on a parent's lap; advice on night feeds, bottles and brushing | No | Book a time when your baby is usually awake and fed. More on a baby's first visit |
| Toddler, 1–3 years | Counting teeth, checking for early white spots, fluoride varnish if suitable | Rarely | Sitting on your lap is fine if that settles them |
| Child, 4–8 years | Baby teeth and the first adult molars, sealant and fluoride advice, a first look at spacing and bite | Sometimes, small bitewings if decay between back teeth is suspected | Avoid words like 'needle' or 'it won't hurt'; let the dentist explain |
| Child, 9–15 years | Adult teeth coming through, crowding and bite; an orthodontic opinion if needed | When decay or tooth development needs checking | Let them answer the dentist's questions themselves |
| Adult, back after years | Health history, every tooth and filling, gum measurements, soft-tissue check, bite and grinding | Usually, to see between teeth and under old fillings | Say how long it has been; nobody will lecture you |

None of these is needed to book.
Only when they will change what the dentist can tell you. An X-ray shows what an examination cannot: between the teeth, under old fillings and around the roots.
The dentist says which X-ray is suggested and why before it is taken, and you can say no. Read more on dental X-rays at the clinic and how safe dental X-rays are.
Most people need only the first two rows. Sedation is chosen after a medical-history review, and given and monitored by a qualified, licensed clinician.
| Option | What it is | Who it often suits | At Creative Arts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Talk-only first visit | Meet the dentist, see the room, and have a look with a mirror only if you agree | Anyone who has avoided the dentist for years | Ask for it when you book |
| Control and explanation | An agreed stop signal, each step explained before it happens, numbing gel before a slow local anaesthetic | Most nervous adults and older children | Part of every appointment |
| Laughing gas | Nitrous oxide and oxygen through a small nose mask; you stay awake and it wears off quickly | Milder anxiety, shorter visits, many children | Offered after a medical-history review; see laughing gas for children |
| Oral sedation | A tablet taken before the appointment that makes you drowsy and relaxed | Stronger fear in adults | Needs an adult escort home; see oral sedation |
| IV sedation | Sedative medicine through a vein; deeply relaxed but still breathing on your own | Severe anxiety or longer treatment in adults | Fasting and an adult escort; see IV sedation |
| General anaesthesia | Fully asleep, managed by an anaesthesia team | Some very young or special-needs children, extensive surgery, medical reasons | Not at the clinic: the dentist assesses, plans and refers, and it takes place in a hospital |
Fear itself is worth talking about; see care for dental anxiety. Sedation is not normally given at a first visit, because the medical review and planning come first.
It is common, and handled in order.
Anything hurting, infected or about to break comes first.
Decay is removed and teeth are sealed with fillings, so nothing gets worse while you decide on the rest.
Heavy tartar or deep gum pockets may need more than one appointment. GBT teeth cleaning is AED 1,200 per session.
Whitening or veneers come last, if at all. Real results are in the smile gallery.
You receive it before any treatment is agreed, and can take it home.
If something hurts now, say so in your first message: the first appointment then deals with the pain, and the full examination follows. Facial swelling with fever, or difficulty breathing or swallowing, needs a hospital emergency department straight away. See emergency dental care.
Dr. Iuliia Savitskaia sees children for their first visits and adults for general care. Dr. Marina Antoniuk focuses on restorative and microscopic dentistry, including fillings and root canal treatment, for adults returning after a long gap.
The dentist counts the teeth, looks for early decay and white spots, and checks the first adult molars, spacing and bite. Small X-rays are taken only if decay between back teeth is suspected. You get advice on brushing, fluoride and sealants, and any treatment is planned for another visit once your child is comfortable.
Not necessarily, and nothing starts at the first visit unless it is urgent and you agree. If several problems are found, your written plan puts them in order: pain and infection first, then fillings and cleaning, and anything optional last, spread over as many visits as suits you.
Often, yes, and it helps a nervous child see that a check-up is calm and quick. Mention it when you book so the appointments are placed one after the other. If your child still seems worried, the dentist may suggest a short look with a mirror only, and a full check-up another day.
Usually not on the same day. The first appointment is used to review your medical history, examine your teeth and decide which option suits you: laughing gas, oral sedation or IV sedation. Oral and IV sedation need fasting instructions and an adult escort, so they are booked for a later treatment visit. General anaesthesia is never given at the clinic.
The first consultation, an examination and a discussion of your options, is free. If the dentist suggests X-rays, a cleaning or treatment, you are told why, and what it costs, before anything is done, and you can say no. Every proposed item and its cost is then set out in your written, itemised plan.
You can ask, but the examination often comes first. After years without a cleaning, heavy tartar or deep gum pockets may need a longer appointment or a deep cleaning instead of a routine one, and the right type can then be booked.
Say so; it is a normal conversation. Your written plan marks what is urgent and what can wait, and lists more conservative alternatives where they exist. Treatment can be spread over months, starting with whatever hurts or will get worse fastest.
