Original digital files
A phone photo of an X-ray on a screen loses detail. Ask for the image files themselves; our guide to reading a dental X-ray shows what the dentist looks for.

The records that change a dentist's advice most: X-rays and scans, your medical history and medicines, smile photos and details of previous treatment. What to send ahead, what to bring, and in what form.
Photos and PDFs on WhatsApp +971 56 677 7537; large scan files by email to [email protected].

Designed in the clinic and made by hand in Creative Art Dental Lab, in the same building in Jumeirah, Dubai.

Send recent X-rays (and a CBCT scan for implants) as original digital files, daylight smile photos, your medical history, a list of medicines with generic names and doses, and records of previous treatment such as implant details. Bring the same papers, your medicines and any night guard or retainer. Creative Arts reviews photos free on WhatsApp; the clinic may still need its own X-rays.

Every dentist’s licence can be checked on the DHA Sheryan medical directory.
Not every item applies to every case. Send what you have; the dentist tells you if anything else would help.
| Item | Send before you travel | Bring on the day | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Smile photos | Yes | No | Shows colour, shape, gaps and old work, and helps judge how many teeth a smile design involves |
| Panoramic or other recent X-rays | Yes, as digital files | Yes, if you have the files with you | Shows decay under fillings, old root canals and bone levels |
| CBCT 3D scan | Yes, for implants or surgery | On a USB drive if you have it | Shows bone height and width and nearby structures |
| Intraoral scan files | Yes, if your dentist made one | No | Helps planning; the lab accepts 3Shape and Medit files |
| Medical history | Yes | Yes, with any recent hospital letters | Affects anaesthetic, sedation, surgery and healing |
| Medication list | Yes, with generic names and doses | Yes, and the medicines themselves | Blood thinners and bone medicines change surgical planning |
| Implant details | Yes, if you have implants | Yes | System, size and date are needed to restore or repair an implant |
| Previous treatment plan | Yes, if you have one | Yes | Lets the dentist see what was proposed and why |
| Night guard, retainer or denture | No | Yes | May need adjusting or remaking after new veneers or crowns |
The clinic may still take its own X-rays or scan if yours are older, unclear or do not show the area needed. See dental X-rays at the clinic.

Ask your dentist or imaging centre at home for the files themselves, not a printout or a screenshot.
A phone photo of an X-ray on a screen loses detail. Ask for the image files themselves; our guide to reading a dental X-ray shows what the dentist looks for.
A 3D scan is a set of DICOM files, often with a viewer. Send the whole folder, not screenshots of single slices.
If your dentist has an intraoral scan, ask for an export. Creative Art Dental Lab accepts 3Shape and Medit scan files; see digital dental impressions.
CBCT folders are often too large for WhatsApp. Send a download link to [email protected] with your name and date of birth.
Note when each image was taken. Recent images are most useful; the dentist decides whether new ones are needed.
Medical history decides which anaesthetic, sedation and surgery are safe, and how quickly you heal. List:
Use generic names. Brand names differ between countries, and even generic names can: paracetamol in the UK is acetaminophen in the US. Read more about osteoporosis medicines and dental surgery and extractions with diabetes or high blood pressure.

Use the phone's rear camera, face a window in daylight, and switch off beauty modes and filters. Hold the phone at mouth height. Send:
A photo of a smile you like is welcome as a reference. Photos let a dentist suggest options for veneers or implants and a likely schedule; a diagnosis needs an examination.
Ask the clinic that treated you. Records are much harder to obtain once you need them urgently.
System, diameter, length, position and date of each implant. Without them, parts for a crown or repair can be hard to source; see implants placed elsewhere.
Which teeth, the material and roughly when they were made. Replacing old veneers is planned differently from new ones.
Which teeth were treated and when, with the final X-ray. A tooth with an old root canal may need a decision before it is crowned.
Gum measurements from your hygienist, and whether you wear a retainer. Bring the retainer itself.
Rules on carrying medicines differ between countries. Check the official UAE guidance before you travel, keep medicines in their original packaging with a copy of the prescription, and carry them in your hand luggage.
A dentist looks at what you sent and replies with the options to discuss, the visits a case like yours usually needs and what must be checked in person. Starting prices apply where they exist: veneers from AED 1,250 per tooth and implants from AED 4,000 per implant. Your final price is set in a written, itemised plan after examination; see veneers cost and implant cost.
If you already have a plan from another dentist and want it reviewed, see a second opinion from abroad. For the length of your stay, see how many days in Dubai, and for the whole process, the dental tourism page.

Dr. Firas OsmanOral & Maxillofacial Surgeon & ImplantologistOral & maxillofacial surgery, implants, bone graftingA recent panoramic X-ray, plus any small X-rays of teeth with large fillings, crowns or root canals, as original digital files. They show decay under fillings and the health of the roots, which photos cannot. If yours are older or unclear, the clinic may take new ones before preparing any tooth.
Yes. Ask your dentist or imaging centre for the full DICOM folder, not screenshots, and send a download link by email with your name and date of birth. A recent scan helps the surgeon plan before you travel; the clinic decides whether a new scan is needed for surgery.
Brand names differ between countries, so a generic name and dose avoids confusion. Even generic names can differ: paracetamol in the UK is acetaminophen in the US. Blood thinners, osteoporosis medicines and diabetes medicines matter most before surgery, so list those first.
Sometimes. If your X-rays are recent, clear and show the area being treated, the dentist may be able to use them. Older images, phone photos of a screen, or a missing view for implant planning usually mean the clinic takes its own before treatment.
The implant system, diameter, length, position and placement date, ideally from the clinic's records or an implant card, plus the latest X-ray. These are needed to source compatible parts for a new crown or a repair. Ask for them before you travel; they are harder to obtain later.
Photos and PDFs fit on WhatsApp (+971 56 677 7537). CBCT folders and intraoral scans are usually too large, so upload them to a file-sharing service and email the link to [email protected], with your name, date of birth and the date each scan was taken.
