What is E.max (lithium disilicate)?
Definition
E.max is a lithium disilicate glass-ceramic used for veneers and crowns because it combines natural-looking translucency with several times the strength of feldspathic porcelain.
E.max is pressed or milled into shape, then stained or layered by hand so the colour changes from the body of the tooth to a clearer biting edge. It is a common choice for front-tooth veneers, single crowns and Hollywood smile cases where light needs to pass through the ceramic. At Creative Arts in Dubai, E.max work is designed with your dentist and made in Creative Art Dental Lab, in the same building.
Ask whether E.max or another ceramic suits each tooth: a very dark tooth or a heavy bite may need zirconia instead, and many smiles mix materials. Ask how much enamel the design needs, and to see the mock-up first. Veneers start from AED 1,250 per tooth; the material chosen for each tooth changes the final figure, which is written in your plan.
Questions about E.max (lithium disilicate)
Is E.max only used for veneers, or also for crowns?
Both. E.max is used for thin veneers on front teeth and for single crowns, mainly on front teeth and premolars where appearance matters. For back teeth under heavy biting forces, or for longer bridges, dentists often prefer zirconia because it is stronger. Your dentist chooses the ceramic tooth by tooth at the examination, and the reason for each choice should be written in your treatment plan.
