What is Guided implant surgery?
Definition
Guided implant surgery is a technique in which implant position, depth and angle are planned on a CBCT scan, then transferred to the mouth with a custom guide that steers the drill.
The guide is especially useful near nerves or sinuses, for several implants placed together and for full-arch cases, where small errors in angle matter. It does not change how long the bone takes to bond, usually about 3–6 months. At Creative Arts in Dubai, guides are 3D-printed in Creative Art Dental Lab, in the same building, and used where the case calls for it, not routinely; the surgeon remains responsible for every step.
Ask whether a guide is planned for your case and why, and whether you can see the digital plan on screen. Ask who approves the plan and how the guide is checked in the mouth before drilling. The guide is listed in your written plan if it is used.
Questions about Guided implant surgery
Does a surgical guide mean a machine places my implant?
No. A surgical guide is a custom 3D-printed template that fits over your teeth or gum and limits the direction and depth of the drill to the position planned on screen. The surgeon still performs the operation, checks each step and can change course if needed. The guide transfers an approved plan accurately; it does not replace the surgeon's judgement.
