What is Dental microscope?

Definition

A dental operating microscope is a magnifying instrument with its own light, used by the dentist to see fine details inside and around a tooth during root canal treatment and precise restorative work.

Magnification helps find narrow, calcified or extra canals, see fine cracks, and remove old filling material during retreatment. It is most useful for molars and for teeth that have been treated before. At Creative Arts in Dubai, Dr. Marina Antoniuk and Dr. Iuliia Savitskaia use a microscope for root canal work. It aids precision; it does not change the anaesthetic and it does not promise a result.

Ask whether the microscope will be used throughout your treatment or only for certain steps. If a tooth has had a root canal before, ask what the microscope may reveal, such as a missed canal or a crack, and how that would change the plan.

Questions about Dental microscope

Does root canal treatment under a microscope take longer?

It can take a little longer in some cases, because the dentist examines the canals and cracks in more detail and can find canals that are hard to locate without magnification. For a first root canal it usually still takes one or two visits; retreatment of an earlier root canal often takes longer. The aim of the extra detail is a more thorough cleaning of the tooth.
