What is Dental bridge?
Definition
A dental bridge is a fixed replacement for one or more missing teeth: an artificial tooth, the pontic, joined to crowns or wings attached to the neighbouring teeth, or to dental implants.
A conventional bridge needs the teeth on either side to be prepared for crowns, so it suits gaps where those teeth already need crowns. A resin-bonded (Maryland) bridge uses a thin wing instead, and an implant bridge rests on implants and leaves natural teeth untouched. At Creative Arts in Dubai, the dentist chooses the type for your gap; bridges are mostly made in zirconia, hand-finished for shade where they show, at the lab in the same building.
Ask the dentist to compare a bridge with an implant for your gap, including what happens to the neighbouring teeth. Ask how you will clean under the pontic, which usually needs floss threaders or interdental brushes. A conventional bridge typically takes two to three visits; costs are in your written plan.
Questions about Dental bridge
Does the false tooth of a bridge go into the gum?
No. The false tooth, called the pontic, does not go into the gum or bone. It rests gently on the gum and is held by the crowns, wings or implants on either side. Its underside is shaped so that you can clean beneath it with floss threaders or small interdental brushes, which is an important part of keeping the bridge and the supporting teeth healthy.
