Babies and toddlers
Teeth coming through, early decay from night-time bottles, and cleaning technique. The first visit is mostly advice for parents and a calm introduction to the chair.
Book parents and children back to back: check-ups, cleaning, sealants and fluoride where they help, and one written plan per person. Open every day, so school holidays and weekends work too.
Tell us each person's name and age when you book, so appointments can be placed back to back.
Creative Arts, at 614 Jumeira St, Jumeirah 3, Dubai, sees children and adults at the same clinic. A family visit can combine check-ups, Guided Biofilm Therapy cleaning, fissure sealants and fluoride varnish where they are indicated, with appointments booked back to back. The clinic is open every day from 10:00 to 20:00, and a child's first check-up is recommended by the first birthday or within six months of the first tooth.
The check-up is the same appointment type, but the dentist looks for different things at each stage.
Teeth coming through, early decay from night-time bottles, and cleaning technique. The first visit is mostly advice for parents and a calm introduction to the chair.
Decay between baby molars, new permanent molars ready for sealants, thumb or dummy habits, and how the bite is developing as adult teeth arrive.
Plaque around braces, sugary and energy drinks, sports mouth injuries and wisdom teeth starting to form. See orthodontics for teenagers.
Gum health, worn or cracked teeth, old fillings and crowns, dry mouth from medicines, and cleaning around implants or bridges.
Prevention is chosen per child. These are the usual indications; the dentist confirms them after looking.
| What it is | Usually suggested when | Visit time | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fissure sealant | A flowable resin that seals the deep grooves on the biting surface of back teeth | Permanent molars have just come through and the grooves are deep or already staining | Short; no drilling or numbing for a standard sealant |
| Fluoride varnish | A thin fluoride coating painted on to strengthen enamel | Decay risk is raised: frequent snacks or juice, past cavities, white spots or braces | A few minutes at the end of a check-up |
| Professional cleaning | Biofilm removed with air polishing; tartar cleared where present | Plaque or tartar builds up, gums bleed, or the child wears braces | Part of the hygiene appointment |
| Tooth-coloured filling | Decay removed and the tooth rebuilt in composite | A cavity has formed in a baby or adult tooth | Separate appointment if needed |
Our preventive dentistry page explains each measure in more depth, and tooth-coloured fillings covers what happens when a cavity does form.
Mention every family member when you book so enough chair time is reserved.
Give each person's age and any concerns. Young children are often best seen first, while they are still fresh.
BeforeTeeth, gums and bite are examined. Children can sit on a parent's lap or watch a parent go first.
At the clinicCleaning for those who need it; sealants or fluoride varnish for the children they are indicated for.
Same visitAnything further, such as a filling or an orthodontic assessment, goes into a written plan with cost and alternatives.
AfterNext check-ups are set according to each person's risk, and families often keep them on the same day.
Next visitTerm-time appointments mean missed lessons, so many Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim families book check-ups during the winter, spring and summer breaks or at weekends. Because the clinic is open seven days, Friday, Saturday and Sunday appointments are available, but holiday weeks fill early; booking the next family recall before you leave is the simplest way to keep it.
If you are travelling for the summer, a check-up a few weeks beforehand leaves time for a filling or sealant to be done before you go, rather than discovering a problem abroad. Children's orthodontic assessments, recommended around age seven, are carried out by our specialist orthodontists — ask about booking one alongside the family visit; see the early orthodontic assessment page or the orthodontist in Jumeirah.
Families come from Jumeirah 1, 2 and 3, Umm Suqeim, Al Wasl, Al Safa and Al Manara. Open the clinic in Google Maps for directions, and ask about parking when you book. Adults can add a GBT clean or whitening to the same visit.
A first visit that ends in a ride in the chair and counting teeth is a good visit. Tell us if your child is anxious and we plan a short, low-pressure appointment first. For a knocked-out, broken or painful tooth, see our emergency dentist in Jumeirah page and call during opening hours; never put a knocked-out baby tooth back in.
Check-ups, children's preventive care, hygiene and gum care are led by these dentists; orthodontic assessments are carried out by our specialist orthodontists.
By the first birthday, or within six months of the first tooth appearing. The first visit is short: the dentist checks the teeth and gums, talks you through cleaning, feeding and dummy habits, and lets your child get used to the chair. Early visits make later ones easier.
Yes. Give us each person's name, age and any concerns when you book and the appointments are placed back to back. Each person has their own examination, and any treatment beyond cleaning, sealants or fluoride is planned separately with its own written plan.
For permanent back teeth with deep grooves, sealants are a simple, well-established way to lower the risk of decay on the biting surface. They are usually placed soon after the molars come through, around ages six and twelve, and are checked at each visit. Not every tooth needs one.
It depends on decay risk. A child with frequent snacks or juice, previous cavities, white spots on the enamel or braces may benefit at each check-up; a low-risk child may not need it. The dentist explains the reason each time it is suggested.
No. X-rays are taken only when they would change a decision, for example to look for decay between back teeth or to check developing adult teeth. How often depends on the child's risk. Our dental X-rays page explains the types used.
Around age seven is the usual time for a first orthodontic assessment. Most children do not need treatment then; the specialist orthodontist checks how the bite and jaws are developing and decides case by case whether to monitor or plan treatment later.
