Gum measurements
Without pocket charting, gum disease can go unnoticed until teeth loosen. It is the part most often skipped.
A check-up fee should buy a full examination and a clear answer, not a quick look. Here is what changes the cost, and what a check-up at Creative Arts includes.
Bring recent X-rays from your previous dentist; they may mean fewer new images.
The cost of a dental check-up in Dubai depends on what the appointment includes: a full examination with gum measurements and an oral soft-tissue check, any X-rays that are needed, and whether a professional cleaning is done in the same visit. A first visit takes longer than a routine recall. Creative Arts does not publish a single figure on this page, so ask for the fee when you book; any treatment is costed in a written, itemised plan first.

"Check-up", "consultation" and "examination" are used for quite different appointments. A routine recall for a patient whose records are up to date is the shortest. A first visit takes longer because baseline gum measurements, your history and any X-rays are recorded. A problem-focused visit for pain or a broken tooth concentrates on one complaint and often needs an X-ray of that tooth. A treatment consultation for veneers, implants or orthodontics adds photographs, scans and planning time.
Published prices in Dubai vary widely mainly because they describe different appointments with different inclusions. Before comparing, ask what the fee covers, whether X-rays or cleaning are extra, and whether you will leave with a written plan. Our guide to dental costs in Dubai explains how fees are built across treatments.
Most of these depend on your situation, not on a menu.
X-rays are the most common reason a check-up costs more than expected. Relative terms only, because the need depends on your mouth.
| Image | When it is usually needed | Effect on the visit |
|---|---|---|
| No new X-ray | Low decay risk and recent images available | Nothing added |
| Bitewings | Checking for decay between back teeth and bone levels, at intervals set by your risk | A small addition |
| Periapical | A painful, injured or root-treated tooth | A small addition for that tooth |
| Panoramic (OPG) | New patients with many problems, wisdom teeth, orthodontic planning | A larger addition |
| CBCT (3D) | Implant or surgical planning, not a routine check-up | Planned separately when needed |

A low price is not automatically poor value. Check which of these it covers.

Looking at the tongue, cheeks and floor of the mouth takes a minute; see oral cancer screening.
An offer may cover the look but not the images; ask whether they are included and why they are recommended.
A check-up that ends with a verbal list and a same-day treatment offer leaves you nothing to compare or think over.
The UK's National Institute for Health and Care Excellence recommends that the interval between check-ups is tailored to each patient's risk: from 3 months for people at high risk up to 24 months for adults with consistently healthy teeth and gums, and no longer than 12 months for under-18s. Six months is a habit, not a rule.
For most people the cheapest dental care over the years is the routine kind: small cavities found early need small fillings, and gum inflammation caught early needs a clean rather than gum treatment. Ask your dentist what interval suits you and why. Our guide to how often to have your teeth cleaned explains how risk sets the schedule, and preventive dentistry covers the rest.
A check-up should end with information, not a deposit request.

In your own timeDental cover differs widely between plans, and routine examinations, X-rays and cleaning are not always treated the same way. Check your table of benefits, and ask the clinic whether X-rays and cleaning are billed separately from the examination. Our dental insurance guide explains what to look for.
Check-ups are carried out by our general and restorative dentists, who explain the findings and write any treatment plan.
Clinical statements on this page are consistent with these independent sources. They describe averages from studies, not a promise for any one patient.
There is no single figure, because clinics include different things. The fee depends on whether it is a first visit or a routine recall, whether X-rays are needed and whether cleaning is done the same day. Ask what the fee covers, and compare check-ups that include gum measurements, a soft-tissue check and a written plan.
Often, yes. A check-up is a routine examination of your whole mouth. A consultation may mean a problem-focused visit for pain, or a planning appointment for veneers, implants or orthodontics with photographs and scans, which takes longer. Ask which appointment you are booking and what it includes.
It depends on the clinic and on whether you need them. X-rays should be taken for a reason, such as checking for decay between back teeth, not automatically at every visit. Ask whether they are included or charged separately, and bring recent images from another dentist, which can sometimes replace new ones.
Policies differ between clinics, so ask when you book. What matters more is that the consultation gives you a clear diagnosis and a written plan with costs and alternatives, which you can take away, think over or use for a second opinion before committing.
Mostly because the appointments differ. Some prices cover a short look, others a full examination with gum charting, a soft-tissue check and time to explain the findings, and some include X-rays or a clean. Comparing the inclusions is more useful than comparing the headline figure.
It depends on your plan. Some policies include routine examinations and X-rays, while others have limits or exclusions, and cleaning may be treated separately. Check your table of benefits and ask your insurer about any pre-approval rules before your visit.
It can be, if it includes a proper examination. Ask whether gum measurements, a soft-tissue check and any X-rays are included, and whether you will receive a written plan. Be cautious if a free check-up ends with pressure to start treatment the same day.
Usually. Problems found early are smaller and cheaper to treat: a small filling instead of a root canal, or a routine clean instead of gum treatment. The interval should be tailored to your risk, from every few months for some people to up to two years for adults with healthy teeth and gums.
