Conservative care first

TMJ treatment cost Dubai: what each step of jaw care involves

Most jaw joint problems are treated simply and reversibly, so most of the cost sits in a careful assessment and, for some people, a splint. This page explains what each step involves and what changes the total.

Quick answer

How much does TMJ treatment cost in Dubai?

TMJ treatment cost in Dubai depends on what the assessment finds. Most jaw joint problems are managed with simple, reversible care, so the main costs are the assessment itself, any X-ray or scan that is needed, and sometimes a custom splint with review visits. At Creative Arts, Dr. Valeriia Kozachenko assesses jaw symptoms and sets out any treatment, with each step costed, in a written plan.

Published prices in Dubai vary widely because "TMJ treatment" may mean an assessment alone or an assessment, scan and splint together. Compare like with like; our guide to dental costs in Dubai explains how quotes are built.

The assessment

What does a TMJ assessment include?

A TMJ assessment starts with your story: when the pain or clicking began, what makes it better or worse, and how it affects eating, speaking and sleep. The examination then looks at how far and how evenly your jaw opens, where the muscles are tender, how the joint behaves as it moves, and how your teeth meet. Signs of clenching or grinding, such as worn or chipped teeth, are part of the picture.

The aim of the first visit is an explanation, not an immediate treatment. The NHS lists the usual symptoms of a temporomandibular disorder as pain around the jaw, ear and temple, clicking or grinding noises, headaches around the temples and difficulty opening fully, and advises self-care such as soft food and heat or ice packs first. The US National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research notes that clicking without pain is common and needs no treatment, and recommends starting with simple treatments rather than ones that permanently change the teeth or bite.

That is why much of the TMJ treatment cost can stop at the assessment and a review. Our guide to TMJ treatment options explains each option in more detail.

Splints

How much is a TMJ splint, and what changes the price?

A splint for jaw symptoms is a custom appliance, so its cost depends on how it is made and how many adjustments it needs.

  • RecordsAn intraoral scan or impression of both jaws and a bite record, from which the splint is made.
  • Design and materialMost are hard, full-coverage splints for one jaw. A different design for a specific joint problem may cost more.
  • Fitting and adjustmentsThe splint is fitted, then adjusted at review visits as muscles relax and the bite on it changes.
  • What it can and cannot doA Cochrane review found that splints may protect teeth from wear, but there is not enough evidence that they reduce the grinding itself. Ask what your splint is for.

Night guard or TMJ splint?

A night guard for grinding and a splint for jaw symptoms are often similar appliances, but their purpose differs. If grinding is the main issue, see night guards for teeth grinding and what affects night guard cost. If pain, locking or restricted opening is the issue, the assessment comes first.

Extra tests

What extra tests might be needed for TMJ treatment?

Extra tests are ordered only when they would change the plan.

  1. Panoramic X-ray

An overview of the teeth and both joints, often enough to rule out a dental cause.

    Sometimes
  2. CBCT scan of the joints

A 3D view of the joint bones, for suspected wear or structural change. See dental X-ray and CBCT cost.

    Selected cases
  3. MRI by referral

Shows the disc and soft tissues; arranged through a radiology centre when a disc problem is suspected.

    Rarely
  4. Referral to another professional

A physiotherapist, GP or ear specialist when symptoms point beyond the jaw. Our guide on who treats TMJ maps who does what.

Patient questions

Frequently asked questions

What does a TMJ assessment include, and does it affect TMJ treatment cost?

It includes your symptom history and an examination of jaw opening, joint sounds, muscle tenderness and how your teeth meet, followed by an explanation and a discussion of conservative options. For many people the assessment and a review are most of the cost, because simple self-care is often enough. Imaging and a splint are added only if the findings call for them.

How much is a TMJ splint in Dubai?

The cost depends on the records needed, the design and material, and how many fitting and adjustment visits are included. Published prices vary widely, so ask whether a quote includes the scan, the fitting and the reviews. At Creative Arts a splint is proposed only when the assessment shows it is likely to help, and its cost is itemised in your plan.

What extra tests might be needed for TMJ treatment?

Many people need none. A panoramic X-ray may be used to rule out a dental cause, and a CBCT scan of the joints for suspected bony change. An MRI, arranged through a radiology centre, is reserved for suspected disc problems. Your plan explains why any test is proposed and lists it as a separate line.

Is TMJ treatment covered by insurance in Dubai?

It depends entirely on your policy. Some policies treat jaw joint care as dental, some as medical, and some exclude splints. Ask your insurer what is covered before treatment, and ask the clinic for an itemised plan and diagnosis you can submit. Our guide to dental insurance in Dubai lists the questions to ask.

Can TMJ treatment cost be kept low with self-care?

Often, yes. Soft food, avoiding gum and wide yawning, heat or cold, and changing clenching habits help many people, and symptoms often settle with time. Guidance from the NHS and the US National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research both start with these simple, reversible steps before anything more involved.

Will I need braces to fix my TMJ?

Usually not. Orthodontic treatment is considered only when a bite problem is confirmed as relevant, and once pain is under control. It is planned and priced as orthodontic treatment, separately from the TMJ care. Treatments that permanently change the bite are not a first step for jaw pain.

When is surgery part of TMJ treatment cost?

Rarely. Joint procedures are considered only for specific problems, such as a locked jaw that has not responded to conservative care. At Creative Arts, Dr. Firas Osman gives a surgical opinion in those cases and explains what any procedure would involve and where it would take place.
