Before: the situation
One upper central incisor is missing, leaving a gap with the gum ridge visible and slightly hollow. The teeth on either side are yellowish and differ in shape, with brown staining along their edges next to the gap and between the remaining central and lateral incisors. The remaining central incisor has a small chip at its corner, and a canine shows a worn tip with a yellow inner layer exposed.
What was wrong, and why it matters
A gap in the front of the mouth affects more than appearance. Neighbouring teeth tend to tilt or drift into the space over time, the tooth in the opposite jaw can move towards it, and the bone ridge where the root used to be gradually shrinks. Speech sounds that use the front teeth, such as “s” and “f”, can also change.
The teeth around this gap add their own issues: stained margins along the edges can hide leaking old fillings or decay, and chipped, worn edges show that these teeth are already taking uneven load. A replacement that ignores them would sit next to teeth of a different colour, shape and condition.
The solution
The after photo shows the gap restored with a fixed tooth, and the six upper front teeth now matching in shade, width and edge line. The gum line over the new tooth sits a little higher than on the neighbouring central incisor.
Dr. Marina’s planning in a case like this starts with the whole front segment rather than the gap alone: how much bone and gum are available, the condition of the neighbouring teeth, and how the teeth meet in the bite. The replacement and the neighbouring restorations are then designed as one group, so the colour and proportions read as a single smile.
How a case like this is planned and carried out
Examination, clinical photographs and a digital scan of the gap and the neighbouring teeth
Review of the bite to see how the front teeth guide the jaw
Digital design and a mock-up showing the replacement tooth beside its neighbours
Staged treatment: neighbouring teeth prepared for restoration, then the replacement completed
All front restorations shaded together with the ceramist at the in-house dental lab
After: the result
The gap is closed by a fixed tooth that matches its neighbours, and the six upper front teeth share one lighter shade with smooth, even edges. The stained margins and chipped corners seen before are no longer visible.

In Dr. Marina Antoniuk’s words
Dr. Marina AntoniukI believe that high-quality dentistry begins with understanding the bigger picture: what we want to change, why those changes are necessary, and how to achieve the desired outcome in the most predictable way.
In this case the bigger picture was the whole front segment: the missing tooth, the stained neighbours and the bite were planned together rather than filling the gap in isolation.

Questions about this kind of case
How is the replacement chosen when a single upper front tooth is missing?
The usual options are an implant crown, a conventional bridge or a resin-bonded bridge. The choice depends on the bone available, which is checked on a 3D scan, the health of the neighbouring teeth, the gum line and the bite. Dr. Marina Antoniuk at Creative Arts in Dubai explains each option with its trade-offs before a plan is agreed.
Why are the teeth next to a front gap sometimes restored at the same time?
A new front tooth has to match the teeth beside it. If those teeth are stained, chipped or a different shape, a perfect replacement can still look out of place. Restoring them in the same plan lets colour and proportions be designed as one group. Dr. Marina Antoniuk at Creative Arts in Dubai only includes neighbouring teeth when there is a clinical or aesthetic reason.
