Published with the patient’s consent. In the photo, the top half shows the teeth before treatment and the bottom half after. Every mouth is different: your own plan follows an examination.
Before: the situation
The two upper central incisors are a warm yellow with whitish, patchy areas on their surface, and one is slightly fuller than the other. One canine is noticeably whiter and more bluish than the teeth beside it, and thin orange-brown lines run along the gum margins of a few teeth. A small dark triangle shows in the gum between the central incisors.
What was wrong, and why it matters
Front teeth that differ in colour, surface and outline draw the eye to the differences rather than the smile. Patchy white areas often come from changes in the enamel or from earlier bonding, and a single tooth much whiter than its neighbours stands out at conversation distance even when everything else is healthy.
Small dark triangles at the gum appear when the contact between two teeth sits too far from the gum or the teeth taper towards the neck. Stained lines at the gum margin collect plaque and are worth checking for leaking edges. Correcting colour alone does not change outline, and changing outline has to respect how the front teeth meet in the bite.
The solution
The after photo shows the upper front teeth in one even, slightly brighter shade. The patchy areas and the over-white canine no longer stand out, the central incisors are symmetrical, and the small dark triangle between them is no longer visible. The new ceramic restorations keep a natural surface and edge translucency.
When front teeth differ in colour and surface, Dr. Marina’s first step is to establish why: enamel changes, earlier restorations or a change inside a tooth each lead to a different plan, and natural tooth structure is preserved where clinically appropriate. The target shape and brightness are then agreed in a mock-up against the face, and the new outlines are checked against the bite before anything is made.
How a case like this is planned and carried out
Examination, shade photographs and a digital scan
Assessment of why each tooth differs in colour and surface
Bite check so the new outlines respect how the front teeth meet
Digital smile design and a mock-up to agree shape and brightness with the patient
Restorations made with the ceramist in the dental lab in the same building
Fit, shade and bite reviewed after placement
After: the result
The upper front teeth now share one brighter, uniform shade with no patchy areas or single over-white tooth. The central incisors are symmetrical, the edges are even, and the small dark triangle at the gum has closed.

In Dr. Marina Antoniuk’s words
Dr. Marina AntoniukIt is essential to me that, from the very beginning of the treatment planning process, patients clearly understand their current clinical situation, their ultimate goal, each stage of treatment, and the pathway to achieving their desired outcome.
Here the first task was to explain why the front teeth differed in colour and surface, so the patient could see what each stage would change before treatment began.

Questions about this kind of case
How bright should restored front teeth be so they still look natural?
It depends on the whites of the eyes, skin tone and the natural teeth that stay untreated, especially the lower ones. Many people prefer a small step up in brightness rather than the whitest shade available. Dr. Marina Antoniuk at Creative Arts in Dubai agrees the brightness in a mock-up first, and the ceramist in the clinic’s own lab adds edge translucency so the teeth look alive.
Can new front restorations close small dark triangles at the gum line?
Often they can reduce or close them, because the new outline can move the contact point between two teeth closer to the gum. How much depends on the gum and bone level between the teeth, so it is assessed at examination. Where the space is too large, gum treatment or orthodontics may be discussed first. Dr. Marina Antoniuk at Creative Arts in Dubai shows the expected outline in a mock-up.
