Published with the patient’s consent. In the photo, the top half shows the teeth before treatment and the bottom half after. Every mouth is different: your own plan follows an examination.
Before: the situation
The upper front teeth show grey-blue shadows inside the central incisors, and both lateral incisors look grey, thin and translucent, one with a brown-stained crack along its edge. There are gaps between all four incisors, through which reddish-brown tissue is visible. The canines are yellow, one with a chipped corner, and the biting edges sit at different heights.
What was wrong, and why it matters
Grey-blue shadows inside front teeth usually come from within: a nerve affected by an old injury or decay, staining from earlier treatment, or very thin tooth walls that let the dark mouth show through. Thin, translucent teeth with cracks are structurally weak, and a stained crack line can let bacteria in. These teeth need to be checked one by one before any cosmetic decision.
Gaps between all the front teeth trap food, make speech less crisp and leave each tooth without support from its neighbours, so forces from biting are not shared. Restoring colour without closing the gaps, or closing gaps without treating the cause of the greyness, would leave half the problem in place.
The solution
The after photo shows the upper front teeth in one white, even shade, with the gaps closed and the biting edges following the lower lip. The edges of the central incisors have a natural translucency, and the new ceramic restorations match from side to side.
Dr. Marina’s philosophy starts with diagnosis: in a case like this, each grey or cracked tooth is assessed first, including whether its nerve is healthy and whether it can be kept. Only then are the widths of the new teeth planned to close the gaps in proportion to the face, and the work is carried out in sequence so that treatment inside the teeth comes before the final restorations.
How a case like this is planned and carried out
Examination, X-rays and vitality testing of each grey or cracked tooth
Treatment inside the teeth where needed, under the dental microscope
Digital smile design to divide the gap space into balanced tooth widths
Mock-up so the patient sees the closed smile before final work
Restorations made with the ceramist in the dental lab in the same building
Bite reviewed after fitting
After: the result
The gaps between the front teeth are closed, and the upper teeth now share one white, even shade with no grey shadows or crack lines. The edges are level and follow the curve of the lower lip.

In Dr. Marina Antoniuk’s words
Dr. Marina AntoniukFirst comes diagnosis and treatment planning.
Grey, cracked teeth can hide problems inside, so in this case the diagnosis of each tooth had to come before any decision about shape or colour.

Questions about this kind of case
Why do some front teeth look grey-blue from the inside?
Common causes are a nerve damaged by an old injury or deep decay, staining from earlier treatment materials, or tooth walls so thin that the dark mouth shows through. An X-ray and vitality tests show which applies. Dr. Marina Antoniuk at Creative Arts in Dubai checks each grey tooth first and, if the nerve needs treatment, performs root canal treatment under a dental microscope.
Can gaps between front teeth and grey discolouration be treated in one plan?
Yes, as long as the order is right. Any tooth with a damaged nerve or crack is treated first; the new tooth widths are then designed to close the gaps in proportion, and the final restorations deal with colour and shape together. Dr. Marina Antoniuk at Creative Arts in Dubai shows the closed smile in a mock-up before the final restorations are made.
