Published with the patient’s consent. In the photo, the top half shows the teeth before treatment and the bottom half after. Every mouth is different: your own plan follows an examination.

Before: the situation

The upper front teeth are yellow, with deeper yellow-brown patches on the central incisors and brown lines in the spaces between the centrals and the lateral incisors. A small dark spot sits at the biting edge between the two centrals. The lateral incisors sit slightly behind the centrals, and the teeth further back look greyer.

What was wrong, and why it matters

Yellow teeth with brown lines between them usually combine two things: the natural colour of the tooth and stain that has built up where the teeth meet or along old margins. Stain in these contact areas is hard to clean and tends to come back, and dark spots at the edges should be checked for decay or leaking restorations.

When the lateral incisors sit behind the centrals, the smile looks uneven and the shadows make the colour look darker still. Changing only the colour would leave that step in the arch, so shape, position and shade need to be planned together.

The solution

The after photo shows the upper teeth across the smile in one bright, even shade, with the brown lines and dark spot no longer visible. The lateral incisors now sit in line with the centrals, and the new ceramic restorations fill the smile to the lip line on both sides.

In Dr. Marina's approach the plan begins by confirming what lies behind the stains, then designing shape and arch line together with colour. A mock-up shows the patient the new line before treatment, and the bite is checked so that the brought-forward lateral incisors work comfortably with the lower teeth.

How a case like this is planned and carried out

  1. Examination of the stained areas and photographs of the smile

  2. Digital scan and analysis of the arch line and bite

  3. Digital smile design and a mock-up of the new shade and position

  4. Restorations made with the ceramist in the dental lab in the same building

  5. Bite review of the front teeth after fitting

After: the result

The yellow tone and brown lines are gone, and the upper teeth share one bright shade. The lateral incisors are now in line with the centrals, and the biting edges form a smooth, even curve.

Questions about this kind of case

What causes brown lines between front teeth, and are they only a cosmetic problem?

Brown lines between teeth usually come from stain building up in the contact areas or along the edges of old restorations. They are not only cosmetic: those areas are hard to clean and should be checked for decay. At Creative Arts in Dubai, Dr. Marina Antoniuk examines them first, then decides whether cleaning, repair or new restorations as part of a wider smile plan is appropriate.

Where can I find a Russian-speaking dentist in Dubai for stained, yellow teeth?

Dr. Marina Antoniuk is a Russian-speaking dentist in Dubai at Creative Arts Dental & Aesthetics, Jumeirah. She speaks English and Russian and treats yellow and stained teeth after an examination that checks the cause of the staining and the bite. Patients can see the shade and shape planned for them as a mock-up before deciding on treatment.
