Dental Filling Cost in Dubai: What Sets the Price

Two fillings can differ in price because they are different jobs. This page explains what moves the cost of a tooth-coloured filling, what a fair quote includes, and when a filling stops being good value.

Quick answer

How much does a tooth filling cost in Dubai?

The cost of a tooth filling in Dubai depends mainly on how many surfaces of the tooth it covers, how deep the decay goes, whether it is a front or back tooth, and whether an old filling has to be removed first. X-rays and local anaesthetic may also be part of it. At Creative Arts you receive a written quote for each tooth after examination, with the alternatives where a crown would last better.

How we price

Why a filling is priced after the tooth is examined

A filling that looks small on the surface can turn out larger underneath. These are the principles behind a Creative Arts filling quote.

01

Per tooth, not per visit

Each tooth is listed separately with its size of filling, so you can see why one costs more than another.

02

Based on what is found

The X-rays and examination decide the size. If removing decay reveals more than expected, you are told before the plan changes.

03

Now or later, in writing

Teeth that need treatment now are separated from early decay that can be monitored or managed with fluoride.

04

Alternatives shown

Where a tooth is too weak for a filling to last, the plan says so and shows the crown option next to it.

Cost drivers

What changes the cost of a dental filling?

Most of the difference between two filling quotes comes from these factors.

What changesWhy it changes the costTypical effect
One surface (for example, a groove on top of a molar)Small area, simple shape, quick to placeLower
Two or three surfaces (including between the teeth)Needs a matrix band to rebuild the side wall and a tight contact with the neighbouring toothHigher
Large filling rebuilding a cuspMore material placed in layers, more shaping of the biteHigher; a crown may be the better option
Front toothShade matching and layering so the filling blends with the tooth around itModerate to higher
Deep decay close to the nerveA protective lining under the filling, and more care removing the last decayHigher
Replacing an old amalgam or compositeOld material must be removed first, and decay hidden underneath is commonHigher than a new filling of the same size
X-raysBitewing or single X-rays to check depth and nearby teeth, if recent ones are not availableAdds an item
Several fillings in one visitShared set-up and anaesthetic for teeth on the same sideOften more efficient per tooth

Published filling prices in Dubai vary widely, partly because some quote only the smallest one-surface filling. Compare quotes for the same number of surfaces on the same teeth.

Your quote

What a filling quote should include, and what may be separate

Check these points on any quote you compare. At Creative Arts each appears on your written plan, inside the filling price or as its own line.

  • ExaminationChecking the tooth, its neighbours and your bite. Ask whether it is charged separately or included.
  • X-raysNeeded to judge depth and decay between teeth. Recent X-rays from another clinic may be usable.
  • Local anaestheticUsually part of the filling. Very small, shallow fillings sometimes need none.
  • Lining for deep cavitiesA protective layer under the filling when decay is close to the nerve.
  • Bite adjustment afterwardsA short review if the filling feels high once the anaesthetic wears off.
  • Treatment beyond a fillingIf the nerve is affected or the tooth is too weak, root canal treatment or a crown are separate items with their own explanation.
Value over time

Filling or crown: when does a filling stop being good value?

The cheapest repair today is not always the cheapest over the years. The choice depends on how much healthy tooth remains.

SituationUsually suitsWhy
Small or medium cavity with strong wallsComposite fillingKeeps the most natural tooth at the lowest cost
Large cavity but cusps still thickLarger composite fillingStill reliable if the bite is normal; checked at reviews
A cusp broken or very thin wallsCrown, sometimes after a core fillingA large filling would leave the walls prone to fracture
Root-canal-treated back toothCrownThese teeth are more likely to split without cusp coverage
Repeated failures of the same fillingCrown, or a review of the bite and grindingReplacing it again usually removes more tooth each time

Our guide to crown or filling explains the decision, and crown cost covers what a crown involves.

Material and old fillings

Does the material or replacing old fillings change the price?

At Creative Arts, tooth-coloured composite is the standard filling material. It is bonded to the tooth, so the dentist can usually remove only the decay rather than cutting extra tooth to hold the filling in place. Silver amalgam is a different material with a different technique; our comparison of white and silver fillings sets out the differences honestly.

Replacing an old filling usually costs more than a new one of the same size, because the old material has to be removed and decay is often found underneath. Intact old fillings do not need replacing simply because of their colour or material; replacement is worth it when there is decay at the edge, a crack, a broken cusp nearby, or when you prefer a tooth-coloured result on a visible tooth. For visible front fillings, see replacing old front fillings.

Whether insurance contributes depends entirely on your policy; our guide to dental insurance in Dubai explains what to ask your insurer.

Waiting usually costs more

Decay grows. A cavity that needs a small one-surface filling now can, months later, need a larger filling, a crown, or root canal treatment if it reaches the nerve. Early white-spot decay, on the other hand, may need no filling at all. See tooth decay stages for how treatment changes as decay progresses.

From examination to filling

How you get a written filling quote

A filling is usually straightforward. The quote is clearer when the steps are too.

  1. Examination and X-rays

The teeth are checked, with X-rays where needed, to find decay, including between teeth.

    First visit
  2. Written plan

Each tooth is listed with the filling size, what can wait, and any tooth where a crown is the better option.

    Before treatment
  3. Filling

Decay is removed and the composite placed, shaped and polished, usually in one visit per tooth or side.

    Same or next visit
  4. Review if needed

If a filling feels high or sensitive beyond a few weeks, it is checked and adjusted. See sensitivity after a filling.

Patient questions

Frequently asked questions

Why does a back-tooth filling cost more than a small front one?

It often does not, but when it does, it is usually because the back-tooth filling covers more surfaces, including the area between two teeth, which needs the side wall rebuilt and a tight contact. Deeper decay and a larger biting surface add time. Front fillings take extra care for shade instead, so the size and surfaces matter more than the position.

Is a white filling more expensive than a silver filling?

Composite usually takes longer to place than amalgam, because it is bonded and built up in layers in a dry field. At Creative Arts composite is the standard material. Price aside, composite allows the dentist to remove less healthy tooth in many cases; the comparison of white and silver fillings explains the trade-offs.

Does the filling cost include the X-ray and anaesthetic?

It depends on the clinic, so always ask. At Creative Arts the written plan shows whether X-rays and the examination are separate lines; local anaesthetic, when needed, is part of the filling. Recent X-rays from another clinic can sometimes be used, which avoids repeating them.

Why does replacing an old filling cost more than a new one?

The old material has to be removed before the tooth can be refilled, and decay or cracks are often found underneath. The new filling is therefore frequently larger than the old one looked. If too little tooth remains, a crown may be the more lasting option, which your dentist will explain before going ahead.

When is a crown better value than a large filling?

When a cusp has broken, the remaining walls are thin, the tooth has had a root canal, or the same large filling keeps failing. A big filling in a weak tooth may need replacing again and again, removing more tooth each time, while a crown covers and protects the cusps. For small and medium cavities, a filling is usually the better value.

Can several fillings be done in one visit?

Often, yes, particularly when the teeth are on the same side and can be numbed together. This shares the set-up and anaesthetic between teeth. Your dentist may split treatment into several visits if there are many fillings, if some are deep, or if you prefer shorter appointments.
