Fixed braces or clear aligners
For most crowding, spacing and bite problems. The choice between fixed braces and Invisalign clear aligners follows the diagnosis first, then your routine.
What a specialist orthodontist checks, which records are taken and why, and what you leave with: a clear diagnosis, every realistic option and a written plan before you commit.
The first visit is an assessment. Treatment starts only once you have agreed a written plan.

At a first orthodontic consultation at Creative Arts in Dubai, a specialist orthodontist asks what you would like to change, examines your teeth, bite, gums and jaw joints, and takes or plans the records your case needs: photographs, a 3D intraoral scan and, where indicated, X-rays. You learn whether the problem lies in the teeth, the jaws or both, which options are realistic, and you receive a written plan with duration and cost before deciding anything.
Records may be completed at the first visit or at a short second appointment, depending on what your case needs.
The order can vary, but every first consultation covers these stages before any appliance is discussed.
You explain what bothers you and since when. The specialist asks about general health and medicines, previous braces or retainers, and habits such as thumb-sucking, mouth breathing, clenching or grinding.
ConversationCrowding and spacing; how the teeth meet front to back, side to side and vertically; gum health and bone support; decay, wear or old restorations; and how the jaw opens and closes.
ChairsideThe face from the front and side, the smile, and close views of each arch. They show proportions a mirror hides and become the baseline for measuring progress.
RecordsA handheld scanner records both arches and the bite as a digital model, used to measure the space available and, for aligner cases, to plan each stage of movement.
RecordsA panoramic X-ray (OPG) shows every tooth, root and developing tooth; a cephalometric X-ray shows how the jaws relate to each other. They are taken when the answer will change the plan.
RecordsThe specialist explains what each option can and cannot achieve, including not treating. The written plan follows, with appliance, estimated duration, retention and cost.
Before you decide
Two people with the same crooked front teeth can need very different treatment. In one, the teeth are simply crowded in well-proportioned jaws. In the other, the lower jaw sits too far back and the teeth have tipped to compensate. Straightening the teeth alone suits the first person; for the second it could make the bite worse.
The records separate these cases:
From these, the specialist decides whether space can be created without extractions, whether aligners can make the movements needed, and whether a jaw-size difference means orthodontics combined with jaw surgery should be discussed. Bring any recent X-rays from another clinic: if they answer the question, they need not be repeated.
A consultation does not always end with braces. These are the realistic outcomes, and the specialist explains why one fits your case.

If teeth have shifted after earlier treatment, a limited course or a new retainer may be enough. Old records and retainers help here.
Children seen around seven are usually monitored rather than treated. The early orthodontic assessment page explains what is checked and when to review.
Active gum disease or decay is treated before teeth are moved. A tooth that needs a crown or an implant may be planned with the restorative dentist, so orthodontics creates the right space.
Where the jaws, not just the teeth, are out of proportion in an adult, orthodontics may be combined with surgery assessed by our oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Firas Osman.
A few things make the first visit more useful:
Questions worth asking at any orthodontic consultation:
Adults often have extra questions about crowns, gum support or missing teeth; our page on orthodontics for adults covers them.
Orthodontic fees follow the diagnosis, so the cost is set out in writing after the consultation and records, not quoted over the phone. See braces cost and Invisalign cost for how to compare quotes.
Every orthodontic consultation at Creative Arts is carried out by one of our two specialist orthodontists, who then plans and supervises your treatment. Jaw-joint symptoms can be looked at separately through TMJ assessment.
Allow time for a conversation, a full examination and records. Photographs and a 3D scan are usually quick; if X-rays are needed they may be taken at the same visit or at a short second appointment. When you book, the clinic can tell you how long to allow and whether to bring previous records or X-rays.
No referral is needed to book a consultation with our specialist orthodontists; you can book by phone, WhatsApp or the form on this page. If your dentist has recently taken X-rays or noticed a problem, bring the X-rays or a note. They help the specialist and may avoid repeating images.
Only if they are needed to make a decision. Most people considering comprehensive treatment need a panoramic X-ray, and many need a cephalometric X-ray of the jaws. If you have recent X-rays from another clinic, bring them: if they show what the specialist needs, they are not repeated.
No. The records are analysed first, the options are explained, and you receive a written plan to consider. Fixed braces are bonded at a separate appointment once you accept the plan. Aligners are made from a digital treatment plan, so they also start at a later visit.
An orthodontic check around age seven is widely recommended, because problems such as a crossbite or severe crowding are visible by then. In most children the outcome is monitoring, with treatment, if needed, once more adult teeth have come through. The specialist explains the reasoning for your child at the assessment.
Yes. If another clinic has recommended extractions, jaw surgery or a particular appliance, bring their records and X-rays. The specialist examines you independently, explains the reasoning behind each option and tells you plainly whether they agree, including when an alternative exists and when it does not.
You receive the cost in writing as part of your treatment plan, once the diagnosis and records are complete. We do not quote a figure before examining you, because the appliance, duration and extra steps all depend on the diagnosis. The plan lists what is included, such as review visits and retainers.
The consultation is the same, with extra attention to what has moved and why. Bring your old retainer and any records. Often the change is limited to the front teeth and a short course or a new retainer is enough; sometimes the bite has changed too. The specialist explains which applies to you.
