Shorter, flatter front teeth
Decades of chewing, grinding or acid erosion wear the edges down, so the teeth look shorter and the smile loses its gentle curve. See worn teeth.
After 50, teeth are often shorter, darker and more worn, and older crowns or fillings begin to show. A good plan secures the foundations, gums and bite, before the cosmetic finish.
Bring a list of your medicines and any old X-rays or dental records you have.

A smile makeover over 50 usually combines restorative and cosmetic dentistry: treating gum disease or recession, checking the bite and tooth wear, replacing failing crowns and fillings, replacing missing teeth, then improving shade and shape with whitening, bonding, veneers or crowns. At Creative Arts in Dubai, one dentist plans these as a single written sequence, so the cosmetic work is not built on unstable foundations.
These changes are gradual and normal, and each points to a different part of the plan.

Enamel thins with age and the yellower dentine underneath shows through, while stain builds up in fine surface cracks.
Gums that pull back expose root surfaces and leave small dark gaps between teeth. Roots are softer, more sensitive and more prone to decay.
Grey lines appear at crown edges when gums recede, and older composite fillings stain or chip. Whitening changes neither.
With age the upper lip relaxes, so less of the upper teeth and more of the lower teeth show when you talk. Restoring lost length can rebalance this.
A cosmetic result lasts only as long as what it sits on. Over 50, three foundations are checked before anything is designed.
The first step is nearly always diagnostic; what follows depends on the findings.
| What you notice | Usual first step | Options that may follow |
|---|---|---|
| Teeth look shorter or flatter | Check for grinding, acid wear and bite collapse | Bonding or ceramic to restore length; a night guard; rehabilitation if many teeth are worn |
| Darker, more yellow teeth | Clean and check for decay | Whitening for natural teeth; veneers or crowns where whitening cannot reach |
| Receding gums, dark triangles | Gum charting and treatment | Bonding over sensitive roots; a gum graft may be considered for some cases; careful edge design for any new work |
| Grey line at an old crown | Check crown fit, gum and decay | A replacement crown, often zirconia or E-max made in our lab |
| Missing teeth, drifting | Assess bone and gums; 3D CBCT where implants are considered | An implant or bridge; orthodontics first if teeth have drifted |
| Crowding that has worsened | Orthodontic assessment | Aligners or braces, then restorative or cosmetic finishing |
Teeth can be moved at any age when the gums are healthy; see orthodontics for adults.
Each phase protects the next, and a written, itemised plan sets out the order before you commit.

WeeksYour dentist decides whether lost length can be restored on the front teeth alone or the bite needs rebuilding, and whether you need a night guard.
PlanningThe new tooth length and shape are designed digitally and tried in your mouth, so you can judge how they suit your face and speech.
Before preparationImplants, if needed, usually heal for about 3–6 months before teeth are fitted; crowns and bridges are made in our own laboratory.
Weeks to monthsWhitening, veneers or bonding complete the smile, followed by review visits, regular cleaning and a night guard where advised.
Final phase
Mature smiles often mix crowns, bridges, implant restorations and veneers. Made by one team, their shade, surface and length can be matched. Creative Arts Aesthetic & Dental Center and Creative Art Dental Lab are in the same building at 614 Jumeira St, Jumeirah 3, Dubai, so the ceramist can see your teeth and lips in person at the try-in.

The aim is a smile that looks healthy and rested, not one borrowed from a twenty-year-old.
More real results are in our before and after case library.
Combined restorative and cosmetic cases are planned by one dentist who coordinates each phase, with the laboratory involved from the design stage.
There is no upper age limit. What matters is the health of your gums, the bone supporting the teeth, and your general health and medicines. A plan for an older adult may favour fewer, longer visits and simpler maintenance, but the principles are the same at any age.
Often, yes. Age-related yellowing usually responds well to whitening. It will not change crowns, veneers or fillings, and exposed root surfaces whiten less than enamel and can be more sensitive. Whitening is therefore done once the gums are healthy and before any new restorations are shade-matched.
Sometimes. Veneers need sound enamel to bond to. Teeth with large fillings, heavy wear or old root canal treatment are often better protected with crowns, and teeth worn very short may need the bite planned first. Your dentist decides tooth by tooth, which is why many mature plans mix veneers and crowns.
It can make the smile look less worn: restoring lost tooth length, a natural lighter shade and filling gaps can bring back the curve of the smile and some lip support. It does not change skin or lip tissue, and results vary. The mock-up shows the effect on your own face before you commit.
Only if teeth are missing or cannot be saved, and an implant is one option among several; a bridge is another. The choice depends on the neighbouring teeth, bone volume, gum health and your general health, including diabetes control and smoking. Implants usually need about 3–6 months to heal before the final teeth are fitted.
They can. Many common medicines cause a dry mouth, which raises the risk of decay around new restorations. Blood thinners and some osteoporosis medicines matter if extractions or implants are planned. Tell your dentist about everything you take, and never stop a medicine without speaking to the doctor who prescribed it.
